May 2007 It's now time for the annual insurance hunt. Insurance premiums in general have gone up across the board, so plenty of people have found that their insurance will have gone up come renewal time. May 2006 This year Sky Insurance gets the nod! Most competitive quote and also they are the current FTO Owners Club insurer. May 2005 I was with AON and when my renewal letter came through I was annoyed that my premium had gone up. Anyway, it was time to dust off the old insurers list and time to work the phone. This year Adrian Flux gets my hard earned cash! A very competitive quote - easily beating my AON renewal quote. Honourable mention to Aplan as well but it's Adrian Flux that wins out for me! Background What I found was that unless the insurer had negotiated special deals and schemes with their underwriters, the general quotes I was getting were very high indeed. This year a few beat my renewal quote, a couple got close but in general they either wanted a stupidly high premium and/or a high excess. As always people's circumstances are all different and there are many factors involved that affect your insurance premium. The insurers that were good for me may not be good for you. It pays to shop around! Don't just compare policies purely on the premium, check for courtesy car, European cover, all round glass cover, hifi cover etc etc. The vast majority of insurers seem to load my premium due to the fact I have a GPvR, a GPX would have been cheaper to insure and a GR cheaper still. For some insurers, insuring an Impreza WRX would have been cheaper for me and for others it would have cost the same to insure a Skyline GTR or Porsche Boxster. Paying the same premium for an FTO doesn't seem right when you could have so much more performance for the same money! *grumble* Anyway here's my trimmed down insurers list (sorted in my best to worst quote order)...some have been deleted since last time as they no longer cover imports. Also a lot of them require you to be over 25. I didn't bother including every single broker I tried since a lot of them are selling you the same policies anyway. Hope you find it useful, and for those cheeky lamers who steal content and links, at least make an effort and change the order! YOU know who you are!
Don't bother with the AA, Eagle Star, Fastrack (Amber Insurance), Greenlight etc as they won't cover imports. [Home]
